The Friends of St Leonard’s, Flamstead is a Charitable Trust dedicated to preserving and maintaining the fabric of the ancient Grade I listed church that has stood at the heart of the village for nearly 900 years.

Friends are welcome from all religions or none, to share a respect for tradition, architecture, and contemporary village life.

The Friends raise funds in a number of ways:

  • Annual Membership Subscription
  • Fundraising Events
  • Individual Donations and Bequests

The Friends were founded in 1995. Our aim is to raise funds to preserve the church building and its surroundings, not just for the benefit of church goers but for the community as a whole.

The Friends of St Leonard’s Flamstead charity is now more than 30 years old. It was set up in 1995 when the tower was threatened with closure as it was dangerous. One of the founding members, Harry Birtley, who's now in his nineties, spoke movingly at an event in the church to mark three decades of fundraising. ... See MoreSee Less

Sound up! If you missed this morning's rare 3 hour bell ringing session (known as a full peal), here are a few recordings to give you a flavour. Note the difference in sound from inside and outside the church! Youngsters from Flamstead Village School also came along to witness part of it. Thank you to the professional group of bell ringers from Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire who added a lovely atmosphere to a rather gloomy day. The bells which date back to 1664 were restored and retuned in 2023 at a cost of £50,000 with a large part of that funding provided by the supporters of the FoSL cha#bellringingn#hertfordshirechurchh#livemusicm#villagelifee#flamsteads#hertfordshireshire ...
